Accommodation
Songkhla has a good selection of low and mid priced hotels with both
fan cooled and air-conditioned rooms. There is also a tourist class
hotel on the beachfront with all the usual amenities.
Food and Drink
The market is a good place to find snacks and cheap tasty meals. Samila
beachfront has several excellent seafood restaurants, and there are
a number of good quality Chinese and Thai restaurants located around
Songkhla.
Beaches
Songkhla's Samila Beach is not the best in Thailand especially if
you have just come from Phuket or Koh Samui, but it is pleasant and
the evergreen trees give it a distinctive look.
Shopping
Several Shops around the town have souvenirs and day to day items.
Had Yai, about 45 minutes by bus from Songkhla, is a better place for
shopping.
Sight Seeing
There is a small museum not far from the bus station, and a couple
of temples worth visiting. Yaw Island, located in Songkhla's inner sea,
can be reached by boat taxi from the mainland. Hand woven cotton can
be bought on the island at quite reasonable prices.
