Accommodation

There is a variety of accommodation available both in the city itself and at Ban Chang to the east or to the west at Ban Pha. Prices and facilities vary considerably but most visitors should be able to find suitable accommodation.

Food and Drink

Rayong has a good selection of restaurants serving Thai food and some Western dishes. The area around the market has plenty of noodle stalls and vendors sell cheap tasty food.

All the local beaches have vendors serving food and drink, and restaurants along the sea front.

Beaches

Ban Pha, about 25km south-east of Rayong, is the most popular beach with tourists and locals. A little further south is the tastefully landscaped beach of Suan Wang Kaew. Koh Talu, across from Wang Kaew, is popular for camping and scuba diving.

Shopping

Rayong has reasonable shopping facilities and there is a small department store at nearby Ban Chang. For more serious shopping take a bus or taxi to Pattaya which has several department stores, markets, and two super stores.

Sight Seeing

Boats leave from Ban Pha each morning for the 30 minute journey to the island of Koh Samet.

Those interested in gemstones should visit Chantaburi about 120km to the south-west. Every saturday morning gem dealers come from Bangkok to buy rubies and sapphires. Unless you know what you are doing don't be tempted by the stones on offer.

Sports

Scuba diving and water sports are two of the main attractions Golfers have a choice of five excellent courses within easy reach of Rayong. Boats are available for charter for those wishing to try their hand at deep sea fishing.
