Sight Seeing

Not to be missed is the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaeo located near Sanam Luang. The compound houses some magnificent buildings, statues and murals, as well as the Emerald Buddha. Opening hours are 8.30am to 11.30am and 1pm to 3.30pm on weekdays. On the west side of Sanam Luang is the National Museum, one of the largest in Asia, and an excellent place to learn something about Thai art. A taste of the old Bangkok can be found in the nearby Bang Lampoo area.

One of the tours to the floating market at Damnoen Saduak, 104Km west of Bangkok, is well worth the effort, or you could take a day trip to Ayuthaya.

There are also cycle and boat tours available.

Sports

For those keen on martial sports a visit to the Muay Thai (Thai boxing) stadiums at Lumpini or Ratchadamneon is a must. Keep fit enthusiasts will find several gymnasiums around the city or in the larger hotels.
